Jacobs Wells Baths. Community Asset Transfer Update
In early 2017 the council invited expressions of interest from not for private profit organizations and social enterprises that have the expertise and imaginative proposals to take over the management of this historic central Bristol building.
The deadline was 3 July 2017 and the Selection Panel met during July 2017 to assess the four strong proposals that were received.
The proposals which have been short listed are :
Fusion Lifestyle is a national social enterprise group who have done several multimillion pound projects and intend to reopen the centre as a (smaller) swimming pool with community amenities, including a cafe and sprung floor multifunction dance studios.
Spike Island is a local organisation who want to run arts programmes in the building, maintaining the main space as a performance and rehearsal venue.
Both organizations have met with Jacobs Wells Community Hub to share their visions for the building and receive our input. We have stressed the needs of our community and we look forward to working with the successful bidders.
What happens next?
- The Panel will meet the two short- listed organizations in late September 2017.
- The council needs time to consider the best option for the building and the community. Their decision will not be rushed.
- The CAT decision should be issued by the end of November
- 5th December is the projected date of a Bristol City Council Cabinet meeting for “sign off”.
